How to Draw a Kawaii Bat

How to Draw a Kawaii Bat

The bat is a flying mammal with impressive wings and sharp claws. Its eyes and pointed ears give it a mysterious appearance. It lives in the shadows and orients itself thanks to its echolocation system. These nocturnal creatures play a key role in the ecological balance, feeding on fruit and insects. Their strange presence inspires fascination in the modern world.

Let's move on to drawing this very special animal. For this tutorial, I've decided to offer you a Kawaii version of the animal, to make it cuter and less scary (for some people, that's the case).

DRAWING A KAWAII BAT STEP BY STEP

For all types of character designs, whether human, robot, animal or other, it is interesting to start the sketch with simple geometric shapes. We begin by drawing the head, simply drawing a circle.

To draw the body, we will make another circle slightly larger. Since we are drawing a cartoon, the proportions are a bit exaggerated.

Next, we will draw a cross centered on the head of the bat. This cross will serve as the base for drawing the eyes, nose, and mouth.

Now we begin to model the bat. We draw two small triangles on the head, to create the ears later. Two large triangles, where the wings will be, and two small circles, which will be the bat's legs.

Now, let's give the bat a further shape. If you are drawing in a computer program, you can reduce the opacity of the current layer and draw on a new layer. If you are drawing on paper, you can lightly erase the sketch lines and draw over them.

We draw a darker colour over the entire sketch. You can give the head a slightly more oval shape to make the character more interesting. For the wings, you can simply redraw the triangle, but if you add dots at the top and bottom of the wings, the bat will look even better.

Try deleting other sketch layers if they keep appearing, then draw two large circles on the head for the eyes. Also draw a circle on the bat's body, this part will be the animal's belly. We will colour it in later with a different colour.

Now make smaller triangles on the part of the ear and also draw the nose. For this design, the bat's nose is similar to a pig's nose. You can also draw lines on the feet to separate the toes.

Now let's draw the inner part of the wings. If you have drawn the points I mentioned. You can use them as a guide to draw the inner part.

Next, let's add details to the eyes. A circle to represent the pupils and another triangular shape to represent a reflection. We'll also make two circles on the nose, representing the nostrils and also two triangular fangs, it's a bat after all.

We now draw two small semicircles under the nose. They will be the mouth and the tongue respectively. We also draw a few lines on the ear to give the drawing more texture. We could stop here, but we can make the drawing even more interesting.

On the whole body, you can erase parts of the lines and draw small bumps to represent the animal's fur. This will give more character and personality to the design.

THE COLOUR DRAWING OF THE BAT

Let's start with the most fun part, the colours. You can choose almost any color for the bat's fur, since we are creating a cartoon character. I chose a colour between blue and purple.

For the belly, we will use a lighter version of the colour used for the fur. For the eyes, we will choose a very dark, almost black colour. This type of eye colour is interesting when making nocturnal animals. For the insides of the ears, wings, tongue and nose, we will use the same pink colour. For the inside of the mouth, a dark red colour.

If you want to add more depth to your drawing, you can take darker variations of the colours you just used and create shadows and small dots. It's a bit difficult to choose where to make the shadows at first, but with practice, it becomes easier.

You can also add small details with a white pencil, or lighter colors in areas opposite to where you have drawn the shadows, to give more brightness to the drawing. Other details you can add include a circle on the ground to show that the bat is flying and small lines around the wings to suggest movement.

Your drawing is ready, hope you enjoyed it and see you next time!
