Difficult Drawings for Beginners

Difficult Drawings for Beginners

Today, we are going to look at how to master some drawings that are known to be quite difficult to draw and often pose problems for beginners. To do this, I've thought back to my years when I was a beginner in drawing and what I would have liked to find as a tutorial.

After reflection, I've decided to show you how to draw a shoe, a rose and a bare foot. Although seemingly simple, these items caused me quite a bit of trouble and hair-pulling for a while! If you have trouble drawing things, there's no secret: you need to draw and draw. Keep practicing relentlessly and draw the object again and again. For more advice, tips and the like, there is also a course called...Drawing Basics, feel free to take a look at the site! ;)

The hardest part for me is the feet.

Well, for an entire year, I drew them every week, using real feet as models (either my own or those of live models). We talk about live models in one of our many other articles, for those interested ;)

Today, I'm not saying I draw them perfectly, but I've understood how they work and the basics of drawing them, and I'm no longer afraid to start a character drawing where you can see their feet!

So even if it's not fun, if it's repetitive, practicing drawing as much as possible is the best way to progress. What I suggest to help you improve is to read our article on drawing exercises for beginners, which contains easy exercises to develop observation skills and pencil technique, and then 5 easy drawings, which are very accessible to beginners (for example, it covers a black cat, star, kawaii cloud, ..) both available on our blog!

Alright, enough chat, let's get started with the shoe right away.

FIRST DIFFICULT DRAWING: THE SHOE

To begin, draw an oval towards the bottom of your page.

Draw a beginning of a rectangle going upwards with one curved side and another bent at a slight angle.

Draw a sort of "tie" that follows the curve of the shoe and make 4 circles inside.

To make the sole, form a rounded triangle between the tip and the base of the shoe.

And draw a line that follows the curve of the shoe to make the sole of the tip of the shoe.

Draw the shoelaces. Draw the crossed ones then make one that comes out of the top of the shoe.

Add some details like folds or seams.

Erase the lines that are unnecessary.

Draw some hatching to make shadows and you have finished your shoe!

SECOND DIFFICULT DRAWING: THE ROSE

Begin by drawing the base of the rose. To do this, draw a small deformed oval towards the middle of the page, this is the first petal.

Then, continue drawing petals that spiral around the first petal, making them in different sizes.

To give some perspective to the rose, we will draw petals from different views.

To do this, draw the first part by making a shape of a rounded rectangle and then continue by drawing the petals as in the first part.

Repeat this process to make 4/5 rows of petals.

Once the 4/5 rows are done, draw petals with a harder shape, with angles.

The outer petals are the ones that take all the "hits" so they are the most robust and the hardest, while the inner petals are protected and, consequently, are softer and gentler.

Now that the rose is finished, we can draw the stem with thorns and a leaf.

To do this, start by drawing a curved stem.

Add triangles to make the spines, then draw a line going outward to make the base of the leaf.

Draw the leaf making little "peaks".

Add small triangle-shaped leaves around the rose.

Erase the unnecessary features and you have your rose!

THIRD DIFFICULT DRAWING FOR BEGINNERS: THE FOOT

To make a foot, start by drawing a rectangle in the middle of your paper.

Once the rectangle is drawn, draw an arc from point A to point B.

Add another arc at the top of your sheet to create a curved rectangle.

Add a triangle at the bottom of the base rectangle to make the heel.

Draw the toes one by one, starting with the biggest.

The size and shape of the toes follow the arc of the circle.

Draw the left side following your base with curves.

Draw the other side of the foot while still following your base.

Erase the construction lines and add details such as nails, toe creases, and the shape of the bones.

Your foot is finished.

I hope this article will help you get a better understanding of these objects that we can't always draw.

As I mentioned at the beginning of the article, to progress and learn how to draw things that seem difficult, it is necessary to draw from a model and to keep drawing relentlessly over and over until it becomes second nature.
