Hello artists,
(I'll try to keep it short but it's going to be hard HA HA HA)
I'm Fabienne and like Obelix, I fell into a passion for drawing in my early childhood; at 9 I received my first comic book, "that naughty cocker spaniel", the 12th volume of Boule and Bill by Roba, and along with Barbie, those have been (and still are) the two great passions of my life... and I collect them :o)
I loved it when school friends lent me their memory book to draw in, the Smurfs, Boule and Bill, and even Aliens from the fantastic series "The Men from Elsewhere" (that's so old!!!!); there were little chubby characters, for a change (Fafa incapable of drawing the same design twice, still true today!!!!); as a teen, I started drawing Marsupilami, Spirou (mourning Coluche), and Natacha (what a bombshell!!!). Then I moved on to Tintin, Lucky Luke..... and DISNEY! Faithful reproductions, line for line, to draw like the adults, but also in size! I used to buy large sheets at the stationery store, and I made a Marsu in Neocolor, the singing dog in the kennel from "Lady and the Tramp", with Caran d'Ache watercolor pencils, only the eye was done with dry pencil, for depth, otherwise all with my finger (what fun!)... nipped in the bud, I gave up the hope of drawing like Greg Hildebrand (Lord of the Rings, before John Howe), whose fantasy heroine posters I had; occasionally I still did a few drawings, for the births of my cousins (Yakari, Dumbo, always in large size), then my last drawing was a giant Bambi, with Thumper and his brothers, for my daughters' bedroom wall...
In the meantime, I developed a passion for crafts (made easier later with kids), from Venetian masks to dream catchers, passing through beaded animals, quilling....
Long creative gap....
In early 2020, I was dragging myself to the bookstore in the crafts section, dead for ages.... and there: REVELATION!!!!!! I see a coloring book, The World of Flowers by Johanna Basford! But it's me!!!!!! in Scottish HI HI HI
She draws what I've had in mind forever, as if my body had split in two..... it's CRAZY!
At the end of February, she released her book "drawing everything like Johanna Basford", and it's lockdown (Covid)! What better time to get back into a passion?!???? I dive into her "Inky Art School" videos, 10 days of classes that complement her book, a pure moment of joy, in the calm of life on hold, the silence that allowed me to hear myself again!
Day 6, ocean theme, drawing fish, seaweed, coral... an ANCHOR! I struggle with it, I erase, I start over, I erase... it's still not right (my mantra, use the eraser only in case of emergency, it seems a good learning approach, leave the pencil strokes, and redo the drawings a few days later, to see the evolution).... I'm going mad, my computer screen turns off, I turn it back on, 2x, 3x.... I'll never make it!!!!!! Suddenly, the light bulb in my head lights up; I wonder about the shape of the anchor... a cone shape... and BAM! I FINALLY UNDERSTOOD GEOMETRIC SHAPES!!!!!! I had never grasped those darned shapes, and having drawn circles to sketch flower petals during the first days of class led me to the click of understanding geometric shapes, all while drawing for fun WOW!
Now I still have a way to go, to understand and master the basics of drawing... or not HA HA
That's why I'm here today ;o)

J'adorais quand les copains de l'école me prêtaient leur carnet de souvenirs, pour y faire un dessin dedans, les Schtroumpfs, Boule et Bill, et même les Alien de la série fantastiques " Les Hommes venus d'ailleurs " ( qu'est-ce que ça date !!!! ); y avait des petits bonhommes jouflus, pour changer un peu ( Fafa incapable de faire 2x le même dessin, aujourd'hui encore !!!! ); ado je me suis mise au Marsupilami, Spirou ( qui pleure Coluche ), et Natacha ( une bombe cette fille !!! ). Puis je m'attelle à Tintin, Lucky Luke..... et DISNEY ! Reproductions fidèles, trait pour trait, pour dessiner comme les grands, mais aussi en taille ! J'achetais les grandes feuilles en papeterie, et j'ai fait un Marsu en néocolor, la chienne qui chante dans le chenil de " la Belle et le Clochard ", aux Caran d'Ache aquarellables, seul l'oeil était fait au crayon sec, pour de la profondeur, sinon tout au doigt ( quelle éclate ! )... étouffée dans l'oeuf, j'ai abandonné l'espoir de dessiner comme Greg Hildebrand (Seigneur des anneaux, avant John Howe ) , dont j'avais les poster d'héroïnes Fantasy; occasionnellement je fis encore quelques dessins, pour les naissance de mes cousin-es ( Yakari, Dumbo, toujours en grande taille ), puis mon dernier dessin fût un Bambi géant, avec Pan-Pan et ses frères, pour le mur de la chambre de mes filles...
Entretemps je me suis passionnée pour les loisirs créatifs ( facilités ensuite avec les enfants ), du masque vénitien aux attrape-rêves, en passant par les animaux en perles, le quilling....
Long trou créatif....
Début 2020, je me traîne en librairie dans le rayon loisirs créatifs, mortel depuis des lustres.... et là : RÉVÉLATION !!!!!!! Je vois un livre de coloriage, le Monde des Fleurs, de Johanna Basford ! Mais c'est moi !!!!!!! en écossais HI HI HI
Elle dessine ce que j'ai en tête depuis toujours, comme si mon corps s'était dédoublé..... c'est DINGUE !
Fin février, elle sort son livre " tout dessiner comme Johanna Basford ", et c'est le confinement ( Covid ) ! Quel meilleur moment pour se remettre dans une passion ?!???? J'attaque ses vidéos " Inky Art School ", 10 jours de cours, qui complètent son livre, un pur moment de bonheur, dans le calme de la vie entre parenthèses, le silence qui m'a permis de me réentendre !
Day 6, thème océan, on dessine des poissons, des algues, du corail.... une ANCRE ! Je pêche dessus, je gomme, je recommence, je gomme.... c'est toujours pas ça ( mon mantra, n'utiliser la gomme qu'en cas d'urgence, ça me semble une bonne optique d'apprentissage, laisser les coups de crayon, et refaire les dessins quelques jours plus tard, pour voir l'évolution ).... je deviens dingue, mon écran d'ordi s'éteint, je le rallume, 2x, 3x.... j'y arriverai jamais !!!!!!?!?! Tout-à-coup, l'ampoule s'allume dans ma tête; je me questionne sur la forme de l'ancre... une forme de cône ... et PATATRAS !!!!! J'AI COMPRIS LES FORMES GÉOMÉTRIQUES !!!!!!! J'avais jamais capté ces satanées formes, et d'avoir fait des ronds, pour dessiner les pétales de fleurs pendant les premiers jours de cours m'ont acheminée au déclic des formes géométriques, tout ça en dessinant de manière récréative WAOW !
Maintenant j'ai encore du chemin à parcourir, pour comprendre et maîtriser les bases du dessin... ou pas HA HA

For sure, sharing progress... at least our drawings, to get informed opinions, and to also show to the absolute beginners that there is a path to be traveled, but it is - and can be made - interesting :o))))
There are plenty of blogs, YouTube videos, which have comments but wandering around everywhere can be confusing, and the comments are so mixed up, that you either have to read everything or you miss the essential... not to mention everyone's advice, often the same tips, and focused on technique, but the good tricks, the creative part (drawing with heart and/or guts), everyone keeps that to themselves! The English are more open than the French, and the Canadians too, they are wonderful with their accent, and share their little artist's secrets.
But taking classes and sharing our progress in the same place seems more focused, more balanced, than spreading out everywhere!
And it allows the truly motivated to work seriously and peacefully, without facing the ego of many of these YouTubers and bloggers!!
Today I dive into the heart of the matter: observation! Keep up the courage

C'est sûr, partager les progrès... en tout cas nos dessins, pour avoir des avis éclairés, pour montrer aussi aux débutants vraiment novices qu'il y a certes du chemin à parcourir, mais qu'il est - et peut se rendre - intéressant :o))))
Il y a pléthore de blogs, vidéos Youtube, qui comportent des commentaires mais trop traîner partout nous perd, et les commentaires sont tellement mélangés, que soit il faut tout lire, soit on rate l'essentiel... sans parler du bon conseil de chacun, souvent les mêmes conseils, et portés sur la technique, mais les bonnes astuces, la partie créative ( dessiner avec le coeur et/ou les tripes ), chacun se le garde bien ! Les anglais sont plus ouverts que les français, et les canadiens aussi, ils sont magnifiques avec leur accent, et partagent leurs petits secrets d'artiste.
Mais prendre des cours et partager nos avancées au même endroit me semble plus concentré, plus équilibré, que de s'éparpiller partout !
Et ça permet aux vrais motivés de travailler sérieusement et calmement, sans faire face à l'ego de beaucoup de ces youtubeurs et bloggeurs !!
Aujourd'hui j'entre dans le vif du sujet : l'observation ! Couraaaaaaage
