Hello, good evening and thank you for your lessons. I hope I'm not bothering you too much, but...
I tried to draw a man... I ended up with a monster D:
But seriously, I don't know what to think. If you could enlighten me on all the things I need to improve, that would be cool, thanks đ
Jokes aside, there isn't one specific area I'd advise you to work on rather than another. You probably know this already, but this is just the first drawing in a very long series! Character drawing is very demanding and requires a lot of practice.
I would simply suggest that you do lots and lots and lots of them! From photos, from real life, from imagination... The concepts from the course will guide you somewhat, but initially, it's experience that will train you. :-)
Well, here's a beginner's result. I drew these cannons separately and retraced them onto this sheet with an ink pen. Several attempts to define the features of the head and my lack of experience did not adequately define the proportions of the male cannon, but I am still satisfied with it. There are some errors in the proportions from left to right or vice versa, but still, it can easily be defined as a male character.
Subsequently, having observed certain difficulties in the proportions, I made another attempt with the female cannon. The challenge was to reproduce finer features to bring out a feminine character. The proportions of the head are about 7.5. Itâs a shame that this did not match those of the male cannon to be able to compare them with each other. The experience and previous observations of the male cannon still served as a guide and I think I can say that the proportions are a bit more accurate.
Itâs not easy to bring out male, female, and child characteristics. I need a lot of practice for this to become second nature in the technique. As a final point, the fact of retracing with an ink pen also provided evidence that more confidence needs to be placed in the execution of the line and one must have a thought already established before placing the pen on the paper. In short, I encourage everyone to do this exercise... itâs a "must",,,"must do", as we say back home!đ
Hello,
Great exercise!
You are absolutely right. Drawing characters requires a lot of practice. And the worst part is that once you start to get comfortable, there are tons of rules that you can regularly break. If you draw fantasy, for example, with a whole bunch of fantastical creatures. Elves, dwarves, and so on. Or just to draw very varied morphologies. But this will only become possible with sketchbooks filled to the brim :-P
A very educational exercise for this is to make sketches from clothing catalogs. đ
Keep it up anyway!
Well, in terms of proportions, you're doing pretty well. Except for the head and neck (which are correct in the male version only ^^).
For the rest, there are things slightly misplaced (the neck and head, but also the knees: too low, the elbows: too high). Extra lines around the stomach.
But I think it's pretty good for a start ^^ It will come with practice :D
It also lacks a bit of structure in the arms and legs. You can see another approach in the articles below if you want ^^
Hello Rakjah, I know it's not part of the exercise but I really want to learn so I'm still practicing the character, thank you for giving me those two sites, it helps me even more on Dessindigo.
I made a woman's face and I gave her earrings, I wanted it to look like a woman's face.
I hope my proportions are good.
I will practice drawing a man's face and then I will try to redraw the characters. I am a bit slow at learning but with my perseverance I might get there.
I think this one the head is a little less square I just realized that my right exile is not quite equal with the other in terms of the width of the side of my face. I need a lot, a lot of practice.
I apologize for sending you 3 photos, but as you can see I've corrected the side of the face; I took a lot of notes because I won't remember the class, so I take a lot of notes.
Let me know if these are the correct face proportions, please.
So it all depends on what you're aiming for with the face. The way you've done it here is stylized, but the proportions are mostly correct (even if the eye you placed in the middle is smaller than the other two ^^).
Watch out for the symmetry, take a look at his skull for example :) So if it's a comic book / animation type character you were trying to make, yes it works well.
If you were trying to make a realistic face on the other hand, no, the proportions are not correct. But in your defense, making a realistic face without a model, unless you have years of experience practicing portraiture, is extremely complicated (I myself can't do it without a model for example).
Thanks for always responding. I tried to do the face on the site you gave me, at least I tried to match the idea I got from it, but it's the proportions mainly that I tried to do rightâat least they are good for a comic book. But I tried a realistic face and it failed âčïž. It's difficult, I think I don't have much potential for characters since my third eye is smaller, does that mean his eyes are too big? I think I'm going to move on as you suggested, to make some progress. I'll try practicing characters later in between classes. Thank you for helping me.
You tend to make the legs quite thick, place the knee a bit too low and the elbow a bit too high, and make the gentlemen a bit too wide once below the shoulders.
But overall, you've understood the proportions well, for me it's very good, the rest will refine with practice :D

Bref, jâencourage tous ceux Ă produire cet exerciceâŠcâest un «must»,,,«must to do», comme on dit chez moi!đ

TrĂšs bon exercice !
Tu as tout à fait raison.

But I think you've grasped the essentials. You can move on to the next step :3

So it's all a question of the initial goal :)

Tu peux poursuivre ;p
