As I suffer from essential tremor, I decided to use computer software that offers trace stabilization. Also, I had the opportunity to get a Wacom graphics tablet to draw on my computer (although Iâm using it more for gaming at the moment đ). My question is whether using computers can be a hindrance to learning the course material?

We had the chance to discuss this on Facebook when you contacted us with the same question. Iâm confirming again that there is absolutely no problem with taking the courses using computers as a learning tool. đ
No problem, you can work with whatever you want! You could even decide to do everything using oil paints on canvas, and it wouldnât change anything. The fundamentals of drawing are the same, regardless of the materials you use ;-)

I have a question: Iâm currently working on A4-sized paper (itâs cheap and easy to find, ideal for my âshame sketchbookâ đ).
Iâll switch to A3 when it feels a little less âembarrassing.â
But that raises a dilemma regarding the choice of tablet.
Iâm thinking that, based on the principle that if you can do more, you can also do less, Iâm hesitant to get an A3-sized tablet directly.
But Iâm a little worried that Iâll quickly strain my eyes because the paper wonât fill the tablet completely as long as Iâm using A4.
So, Iâm open to your valuable advice! ^^

Personally, when I work on A4 size paper on my A3 light table, I put a "cover" on it.
Itâs something I made myself: I bought two thin but opaque plastic sheets (black), I donât remember where anymore... I cut out an A4 size within each one (one horizontally, the other vertically)... And there you go!
A slightly less stylish and a bit dirtier version would be to reduce the illuminated area with masking tape (the thick brown tape, for example). The light would be dimmed that way. And you could remove it when you decide to switch to a larger size.
Another option is to have multiple light tables, but thatâs a different budget and takes up more space!
Yet another option is to not work in A3: I personally like it, and sometimes my orders require it, but itâs not mandatory, and if youâre comfortable with the A4 size, thereâs no problem đ

Thanks, Liam :-), I understand that youâre giving us the freedom to do as we please :-). But I also understand that for my shoulders and neck, it would be better to use the plan. Thatâs why I was asking if itâs easy to find points of support with it, because if it is, Iâd rather work with the plan than without it. In my job, my shoulders and neck already suffer, so if I could minimize the strain with the drawing, that would be great.
I would say that the inclined plane shouldnât be a problem. Just make sure itâs very stable. Afterwards, you can test it out and see if it works for you or not. đ
I've noticed that the topic of light boxes comes up frequently. Some manufacturers recommend using 240 g/mÂČ paper, but it's possible to go up to 400 g/mÂČ. This would be ideal for me, as I do my coloring on special paper designed for alcohol-based markers. I really like the result I get when using alcohol-based markers on The Wall paper from Canson.
Has anyone tested this information with this type of paper?
Iâve never tested it with 400 g/mÂČ paper (I donât even have any at home ^^â) but I think that with such a thick paper, you wonât be able to layer many sheets.
In other words, I donât think the light will be strong enough to illuminate two layers: in my opinion, it will be more like a printer sheet with the design, plus a sheet of 400 g/mÂČ paper, and thatâs it!
So, basically, it all depends on your working method.
But these are just assumptions, based on several 240 g/mÂČ sheets stacked on my light table (which is not the same model as the one you show)... So... Take it with a grain of salt.
Sorry I canât give you more precise information!
Do you happen to have the reference for your sketchbook? I canât seem to find one of that shape. I looked at Moleskine, but they only seem to have watercolor sketchbooks, which seem a bit too thick for sketching.
And like you, I use a lot of the Criterion pen for doodling, but my leads are 2B, and I donât find them very oily at all (Faber Castell). What brand are yours?
No idea. I suppose you should be able to find some options in specialized stores, but I have no idea what brands you might come across, or what the price ranges are.

You donât mention it in this video, but you use a type of marker in the following videos that seems to be able to draw both fine lines and much thicker ones (for filling in shapes, for example). What is this tool? Are there different sizes available?

I think Greg mentions it in one of the following videos in the training course. Otherwise, there are several brands for this type of felt-tip pen (they have brush tips). There are several types, such as Pentel, which is refillable with cartridges.
Don't hesitate to try them out in a store; some have more or less flexible tips, are refillable or not, etc.
To my knowledge, in general, there is only one size, except for the Copic brand, I think. This makes sense, considering that it's a tool that you press more or less on to get the desired thickness, so there's no need to have many sizes. If you want a finer tip, you'll be looking at more classic felt-tip pens or precision pens; for thicker tips, you'll be looking at actual brush pens.

Je me pose une question, je travaille aujourd'hui sur des feuilles A4 (pas chĂšre et facile Ă se procurer, idĂ©al pour le carnet de la honte đ ).
Je passerai sur du A3 quand ça sera un peu moins "honteux".
Mais du coup ça pose un dilemme sur le choix de la tablette.
Je me dis que sur le principe qui peut le plus, peut le moins, j'hésite donc à prendre une tablette au format A3 directement.
Mais j'ai une certaine appréhension de me brûler les yeux rapidement car la feuille ne remplira pas intégralement la tablette tant que je suis au format A4.
Du coup je suis preneur de vos précieux conseils ! ^^

C'est un truc que je me suis fait moi-mĂȘme : j'ai achetĂ© deux plaques de plastique fin mais opaque (noir) je ne sais plus oĂč... J'ai dĂ©coupĂ© Ă l'intĂ©rieur de chacune un format A4 (l'un Ă l'horizontale, l'autre vertical)... Et roulez jeunesse !
Une version un peu moins sexy et lĂ©gĂšrement plus crade serait de rĂ©duire la zone de lumiĂšre avec du scotch de bricolage (le gros scotch marron par exemple). La lumiĂšre serait attĂ©nuĂ©e comme ça. Et tu l'enlĂšverais le jour oĂč tu dĂ©ciderais de passer au format au dessus.
L'autre option, c'est d'avoir plusieurs tables lumineuses, mais ce n'est pas le mĂȘme budget, ni le mĂȘme encombrement !

AprĂšs avoir regarder la vidĂ©o jâai une petite question, ayant un tremblement essentiel ( jâai vu dans les commentaires que je n'Ă©tais pas la seule) jâai besoin de beaucoup de points dâappuis. Comment faire avec un plan inclinĂ©? Jâai la sensation que si je bosse sur un plan inclinĂ© je vais devoir avoir le poignet « en lâair » je ne sais pas si je suis clair avec mon image. Un peu Ă lâimage de ce quâon peut voir dans les films ou dans les sĂ©ries quand on voit quelquâun peindre. Probablement que mon idĂ©e est erronĂ©e.
En tout cas merci pour cette vidĂ©o trĂšs claire :-). Je ne sais pas encore si je passerais Ă la table lumineuse, jâai pris lâhabitude quand je fais un croquis de repasser au feutre noir les traits principaux, et ensuite je remet une feuille par dessus. Ăa fonctionne plutĂŽt bien mais jâimagine que je ne vais pas au plus simple comme ça.

Certains fabricants recommandent un papier de 240 g/mÂČ, mais il est possible d'aller jusqu'Ă 400 g/mÂČ. Ce qui m'arrangerait bien puisque ma mise en couleur se fait sur du papier spĂ©cial feutres Ă alcool. J'aime bien le rendu des feutres Ă alcool sur le papier The Wall de Canson.
Est-ce que quelqu'un a déjà testé cette information avec ce type de papier ?

C'est Ă dire que je ne pense pas que la lumiĂšre soit suffisante pour en empiler deux : Ă mon avis ce sera plutĂŽt un truc du genre feuille d'imprimante avec le tracĂ©, + papier 400g/mÂČ et basta !
Donc en gros, tout dépend de ta façon de bosser.
Mais ce ne sont que des suppositions, Ă partir de plusieurs feuilles 240g/mÂČ empilĂ©es sur ma table lumineuse (qui n'est pas le mĂȘme modĂšle que celui que tu montres)... Donc... Ă prendre avec des pincettes.

Aurais tu la référence de ton carnet de croquis je n'en trouve pas de cette forme. J ai regardé le Moleskine mais ils existent qu'en aquarelle (ça me semble trop épais pour le croquis) ?
Et comme toi j'utilise beaucoup le critérium pour griffouiller mais mes mines sont des 2B mais je ne les trouvent pas du tout grasses ?? (Faber Castell) c'est quoi la marque des tiennes ?

I would say they no longer make them in that format. I can only find them in the standard format now đ.
As for the leads, I recommend 2B 0.5 from Staedler!

Tu n'en parles pas dans cette vidéo, mais tu utilises dans les suivantes une sorte de feutre qui parait pouvoir dessiner fin comme bien plus épais (pour le remplissage de silhouettes par exemple). Quel est cet outil ? Existe-t'il plusieurs tailles ?

Il me semble que Greg en parle dans l'une des vidéos suivantes de la formation. Autrement, tu as plusieurs marques pour ce type de feutres (ce sont des pointes pinceau / brush). Tu en as plusieurs sortes comme le pentel par exemple, qui est rechargeable avec des cartouches :)
N'hésite pas à en tester en magasin, certains ont des mines plus ou moins souples, rechargeables ou non, etc ^^
A ma connaissance, en général il n'y a qu'une taille, à part dans la marque Copic je crois. Ce qui est logique, vu que c'est un outil sur lequel tu appuies plus ou moins pour avoir l'épaisseur voulue, donc pas besoin de faire de nombreuses tailles ^^ Plus fin tu seras plus sur des feutres plus classiques, des feutres de précision, plus épais, plutÎt sur des pinceaux à proprement parler :)
