Course Information

Using the references available in the ‘course materials’ tab, which show several styles of children’s illustration – in this case Trotro the Little Donkey by Bénédicte Guettier, Little Nicholas by Sempé and Ernest and Celestine by Gabrielle Vincent – revisit your Christmas tree image and, using the tool of your choice, try to reproduce the visual conventions of each style.

Take the time to analyse the reference images carefully and identify the elements and details – or, indeed, the deliberate lack of detail – that characterise each approach to children’s illustration.

Then, following my demonstration, create your own version of the Christmas tree setting in the style of Trotro, Little Nicholas or Ernest and Celestine.
