Hi Eric, glad you’re enjoying the course! Your drawing is very good. It’s fine that you didn’t take many risks right away; it’s good to start with something simple. You did a good job with the perspective on the building. As for the roof, to center the peak properly, you can extend the cube and find the center by drawing the diagonals of the top square.

Pay attention to the clouds in the background; refine the shape of the outline so that they stand out clearly from the rest of the composition. You managed the different values well, which is great. However, the elements in the background could be a little more detailed in terms of linework. For the grass, you don’t have to draw lines across the entire surface, but you can place clumps and small “waves” of grass here and there.

Hi Jessica, that’s great, it looks good! Just be aware that it leaves some empty spaces on the sides. You could either shift the tree to the left and the house to the right, or completely reframe the drawing, as I did in the revised version. I like the effect with the different textures in the tree, but you need to be careful not to overdo it with too many different textures (there are four here). Sticking to one or two textures seems like a good idea. Then, you need to manage the contrasts with the areas of shadow and light.

Great drawing! Don’t hesitate to continue the lines to their full extent; otherwise, it gives an unfinished look (the branches of the tree). Or, you could place a frame that cuts off the image. For the rest, there’s a small empty space in the composition behind the building, but it’s not too noticeable. Pay attention to the perspective on the windows; from this angle, we would rather see the bottom edge than the top edge. Finally, the line of the hill in the foreground could be extended, giving more depth to the drawing and the placement of the path leading to the house.

Great job, Ulya, you didn’t choose an easy subject with this church! You handled it well, but at a certain point, your vanishing lines no longer align, which means the perspective is no longer correct. But hey, with such a complex subject as a church, it’s easy to get lost in the perspective. Pay attention to the framing of the doors and windows; with a bird’s-eye view like this, you shouldn’t be able to see the upper vault. Otherwise, here’s a little tip for perfectly centering a spire or a pointed roof: you can draw the diagonals from your column, and it will give you the center of the cube! ^^

These clothing studies are great! Try to find the right balance between the folds you want to emphasize and highlight, and the many small, unnecessary folds that you can simplify by either representing them less or removing them altogether to lighten your drawing. It’s the same principle as with wrinkles and folds on the face: if you add too many, a young character will suddenly look too old. So, you need to simplify and remove unnecessary details. :)

It helps me improve, and most importantly, it allows me to enjoy drawing and escape from everyday worries. My drawings replace the “TV schedule,” and that feels good.

Once you acquire the technique, it becomes easier, but… there’s still work to be done!

Hello Arnobri, that’s great! You didn’t make things easy for yourself with this Japanese architecture, but it’s a beautiful piece of work! Just make sure that all the elements in your drawing (here, the small island and the bridge) are on the same perspective as your building! The background might lack a little precision, but it’s just a detail. 🙂

Hello AnaisF, your watercolor is really lovely (is it actually watercolor?), and the composition is beautiful! It might be a little empty in the center; by bringing the different elements closer together, you can easily fix that (without making too many changes, so as to keep the spirit of the drawing with its large expanse of greenery (or blue? 😁).

The perspective of the cabin is a little off, but I figured it was just that the cabin itself was crooked, so it works... I think you can raise the horizon line (in my correction, I based it on the perspective of the cabin); this will accentuate the depth of the drawing.

Hi Dodo25, that’s great, I really like it! You did well to make the task more challenging by using ink and a pen because the result is really cool! I would just say that it lacks a little contrast in the areas that I shaded in my correction. Since your sky and clouds are very dense in texture, the entire land area appears too light (especially since it’s supposedly a nighttime scene). However, be careful with the crevice, which is too dark. I think you can lighten it on top. In terms of perspective, in a fantasy universe like the one in your drawing, we can do pretty much what we want, so it will be difficult to tell you if there are any proportion problems, but nevertheless, I think the staircase in the foreground that descends from the fortress seems too large compared to the building.

In any case, great work!
